There Are Much Better Choices

It works fine, but there are plenty of better, cheaper, higher-capacity, slimmer products to choose from -- see Alternatives below. This 2500 mAh Energizer PP1-2K would be an OK choice if it sold for under $20.
The "2X run time" claim means you'll get *one* full smartphone charge out of this battery pack. That's exactly what I found for iPhone (see Note 1), but many Android smartphones have batteries that are 25% to 75% larger than iPhone. For those, expect 60% to 80% of one full charge (see Note SB2).

Note 1: With my iPhone's 1432 mAh battery, and some inefficiency (heat) observed, you would expect about one complete charge. I got 99.5% of one full charge (see Note SB1).

Note SB1: Test details - Charged iPhone 4S from 23% --> 90.2% and 21.8% --> 54%. Charging took 124 minutes, during which phone was idle except for very minor screen use (very dim x 10 minutes) and standby overhead with WiFi on. This drained battery 2% or less.
Note SB2: Most Android smartphones have batteries larger than iPhone. They'd get proportionally less than one full charge.

Fair but competition delivers better for the price

There are 3 ways to go to charge your phone battery:
- Normal plug to the wall or your laptop. Not meant for outdoors.
- Phone cover that contains extended battery. Portable but increases the bulk of your phone. Outdoor uses.
- External battery pack. Portable indeed. Outdoor uses.
This one falls into the third category. I already own some NewTrent external chargers which have satisfied me fully. Some are 5 times the Iphone battery life and some are up to 8 times (per Iphone specs of about 1000 mAh).
This unit should provide about 5 times the Iphone battery life. 5000 mAh.
Size wise, it is a bit smaller than the New Trent units I own but not by a wide margin.
What's to like:
- Brand. Energizer is a very well known and respectable company.
- It came partially charged (so usable right away).
- The cable with magnets is a good idea.
- As for the use, it is perfect for hikers like me who use satellites navigation apps (on my Iphone) which are notorious battery killer. With it, you may last up to 10 hours with full use of your iphone's most demanding apps.
- Standard micro-USB plug for charging. If you lose this cable, any other micro USB should do the trick.
- Capacity to charge two units in the same time. You won't reach the 10 Watts then since you can get 10 Watts with only one unit charging at a time. This is something the New Trent I own was not able to do out of the box (you could still do it using an adapter).
- Turns on automatically as soon as you plug the Iphone to the cable (The New Trent does not do that).
- Size: Can easily fit in a pocket.
What's not so great:
- A wall plug adapter would have been welcome. Generally, laptops USB plugs are slower at charging units. As well, I cannot connect it directly to my Iphone without using the cables provided with the Iphone (an adapter would have been welcome but I may be asking for much).
- Price against competition. New Trent has a similar unit for almost half the price of this unit. You could get a 12000 mAh for just a little bit more.
- Does not seem to turn-off automatically once the phone is 100% charged (the New-Trent does that).
As for the real performance, I used it yesterday all day and all night and now the battery is down to half power (2 bars left out of 4). It is not really a good performance so far as I would expect to not have to plug my Iphone at all to the wall for up to 5 days and nights.
In conclusion, I gave 4 stars to this unit because one can find cheaper for similar or better output. It is nonetheless a nice and apparently robust unit that will satisfy your needs for external power.

For the money, it's just barely OK.

I have an old New Trent, which I never use. It has a dedicated charger, so that means you have to pack another charger.
At least this Energizer uses Micro USB, which is the new standard everywhere (except Apple, of course).
I have found that it barely charges on some wimpy USB ports or chargers. Nor will it charge my phone when plugged into a charger that's less than 1 amp, even when it's full.
My phone is a Nexus, which I know is a hungry device. I get about 24 hrs out of a charge, less if I'm using Navigation. I believe the extended battery is rated at 2100 Mahr.
I tested this a couple of times to make sure I was getting the same results. When the phone got down to under 15%, I charged it with this Energizer charger. It successfully charged it overnight, but at that point it was crying out to be recharged itself.
That's OK, I thought. It could still come in handy in an airport, or similar situation. I looked at the product page to see if other reviewers shared my experience. Since I received this through Vine, I had no idea of the price.
WOW! I have no compunction about spending too much on something that's truly handy. But this just doesn't meet my price/value expectations. I would hope to get at least 2 full charges out of the stated 5000 mahr battery in this.
Your mileage, of course, may vary.
