5This is a powerful battery pack that had great results in my testing, watch the video!
By jjceo (jjceo@comcast . net)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RRR4MTODH8FDE This battery pack is beautifully packaged in a black thin case. It is a powerful battery pack rated at 10000 mAh of capacity and capable of charging two devices simultaneously. I put together a video of the unit and the test results for your review.

The battery weighs in at 8 5/8 ounces. The battery pack has two USB output ports that output 5 VDC at 1 Amp and the second one outputs 5 VDC at 2.1 Amps. This is ideal to allow you to charge two devices at the same time and one of them can be a tablet that requires 2.1 Amps to charge quickly.

During the testing the temperature of the battery pack never even exceeded ambient room temperature. To start your device charging you connect it with the proper cable and press the battery pack power button and charging starts. To check the battery pack charge status I had to press the battery power button from 3 to 5 seconds.

This product is good and I rate it at 5 stars. If you are a business person or a student and have to depend on your tablet or smart phone for long periods of time without the ability to get to an AC power source then this is a good battery to own. This is good for those who travel a lot or camp out. Now you can watch your movies or listen to your music on those long airline flights.

You should note that I did not operate my tablets or phones while I charged it but the WIFI and phone transmitter were left on. When I test a battery I do an extensive set of tests that fully charges the battery and then I use it to charge devices and make sure that it is fully depleted when my tests are done. I time each test and document the results as the test progresses. I then calculate the mAh of capacity that the battery supplied and I then calculate its charging efficiency. This process takes from 3 hours to, in very large batteries, about a day for testing. I don't take any short cuts or guess and every battery has these tests performed on it and documented. This is to assure that the battery is tested and it performs well. If a battery has performed poorly I then run the tests again to verify the results.

Items in the box:
* The UtechSmart 10000 mAh battery
* The battery pack comes with an instruction manual
* A USB to plug coiled connector cable that is 8.5 inches long but it will stretch to 18 inches and it accepts four different charging adapters that are supplied.
* Four charging connectors that fit an Apple 30 pin connector, a Micro USB port, a Mini USB port and a PSP port.
* A carrying bag
* You will have to use the charging cable that comes with many of your devices.

UtechSmart 10000 mAh External Battery Pack Features:
* Powerful 10000 mAh capacity
* The unit is compact and weighs in at 8 5/8 ounces.
* Attractive design with black exterior
* It has 4 blue LED status lights located on the top that indicate the battery charge level. You have to press the ON button for 3 to 5 seconds before the LEDs will light up. One LED on means 0 to 25%, two LEDs on means 25 to 50%, three means 50 to 75%, and four LEDs means 75 to 100%.
* There are two USB power output ports and they are USB 1 rated at 5VDC at 1 Amp, USB 2 rated at 5VDC at 2.1 Amp for iPads and tablets.
* On the back of the battery it is labeled that one port is for Apple devices and one is for Android devices but I was able to charge two Apple products at the same time.
* Press the ON button when you plug in a device and that begins the charging process of your device.
* The battery pack uses Lithium-Polymer battery technology.
* The battery pack can be recharged 500+ times
* Warranty is 18 months
* The battery pack does not come with an AC wall charger.
* Charging it with a USB 2.0 port on your laptop or computer is not recommended by me as the battery would take too long to fully charge. (Approximately 15 to 16+ hours with a 500 mAh USB 2.0 Port.)
* It will take 8 to 9+ hours to charge the battery pack with a 5 VDC USB rated at 1 Amp. It is recommended to use a 1.5 Amp source but I use a 2.1 Amp source for all of the batteries that I own.
* The battery pack can output 3 Amps max at one time so it can charge two devices simultaneously.

Test charging devices to measure the output capacity:

I charged the battery pack fully before I started my test. I started with a iPhone 4 charged at 2% and the UtechSmart was fully charged at 4 LEDs.
* 30 min 42% and the battery pack was at 4 LEDs
* 60 min 78% and the battery pack was at 4 LEDs
* 90 min 96% and the battery pack was at 4 LEDs
* 120 min 100% and the battery pack was at 3 LEDs

I then charged an iPad 2 that was at 57% and the UtechSmart battery back was at 3 LEDs.
* 30 min 69% and the battery pack was at 3 LEDs
* 60 min 80% and the battery pack was at 3 LED
* I charged the iPad 2 overnight and the next morning it was at 100% and the battery pack was at 1 LED

I then charged an iPad 3 at 44% 1 led remaining
* 30 min 54% 1 led
* 60 min 63% 1 led
* 90 min 71% and the UtechSmart battery was dead

Summary of charging tests:
* Charge 98% of an iPhone = 1420 mAh x 98%= 1391.6 mAh
* Charge an iPad 2 43% x 6944 mAh = 2985.92 mAh
* Charge an iPad 3 27% x 11560 = 3121.2 mAh
* 1391.6 + 2985.92 + 3121.2 = 7498.72mAh/10000 = 75%. That is a very good result for this battery.

Here are some common devices and the amount of mAh of capacity they have when they are fully charged. This is just to give you an impression of how much energy it takes to charge your smart device:

* iPhone 4 battery 1,420 mAh battery capacity
* iPhone 4S battery 1,432 mAh battery capacity
* iPad 2 battery 6,944 mAh battery capacity
* iPad 3 battery 11,560 mAh battery capacity
* Kindle Fire battery 4400 mAh capacity
* Kindle Keyboard battery 1750 mAh capacity
* iPhone 5 is 3.8 VDC at 5.45 Wh = 1434 mAh battery
* iPad 4 battery is 11,486 mAh 3.7 VDC at 42.5 Wh
* iPad Mini battery is 4490 mAh at 3.72 VDC 16.7 Wh

As you can see the UtechSmart 10000 will not fully charge a totally dead iPad 3 or 4 because it only contains 10000 mAh of capacity. You have to consider the losses in the charging circuits of both the battery pack and the device you are charging. When using an external battery you have to allow approximately 30 % of the battery capacity will be lost to heat, voltage conversion, powering the batteries electronics and the electronics of your electronics device's charging circuits. In addition you have to consider that your device is not truly off like a cell phone is still connected to the WIFI and phone networks and probably receiving emails, etc.

Real world examples of charging capability with this battery pack:
* iPhone 4 or 5 approximately 5.28 full charges out of a fully charged UtechSmart 10000 mAh battery pack
* iPad 2 approximately 108% of a full charge
* iPad 3 or 4 approximately 64.9% of a full charge
* iPad Mini approximately 167% of a full charge
* Kindle Fire approximately 170% of a full charge

* A normal estimated usable storage is 70% of capacity or .70 * 10000 mAh = 7000 mAh charging capacity available for your electronic devices.

* In my testing I was able to use approximately 7498.72 mAh of capacity or roughly 75% of the 10000 mAh capacity. This is a very good result.

I received a sample product for evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

5More power for more charges
By Chandler
There are a wealth of battery packs on the market today and they all range in how much charge you will get.

What stands about regarding this one is, in spite of its compact size, it offers more power (some charge my phone once, this did it 3 times). This is handy if you have 2 people, let's say on vacation, and you only want to carry one battery pack as you tour an island. Also handy when flying because we really have no idea how long our flights may be due to delays--you are always covered with power now.

I also find a battery pack handy to keep in the car in case of power emergencies if your car should die while your phone is low on charge.

this is a very slim design and powers up everything from tablets to most phones.

5High Capacity Power Bank with a Great Slim Design!
By Dre (DreReviews@Yahoo . com)
I was provided a UtechSmart 10000mAh Power Bank for testing and review and was asked only to give my honest review, so this is what I found.

Look: The product came in a clear professional looking box with product information on it. Inside the box was the power bank encased in a form fitting clear plastic holder with clear plastic protective sheets over the top and bottom it to protect it. It also had a small instruction manual that was very well put together with easy to follow instructions, a USB cable with various connectors and a nice mesh carrying bag (probably the nicest I have seen that came with a power bank). The product looks sleek. It is thin and flat. It is slightly larger and thicker than my iPhone 5 with an Incipio case on it. I like how it is thin because I can just lay my phone right on top of it instead of some other large capacity power banks that are more "chunky". It comes in a smooth black finish that is made of plastic and it looks and feels very solid in your hand. It has one power button, four blue lights in a wave design to show the remaining charge, a micro USB input for charging the Power Bank and a two normal USB Outputs for charging your electronics (one for Apple and one for Android).

Use and Performance: It came with some charge to it so I plugged it into my computer and charged it until it was full. The four blue lights stopped blinking and stayed on indicating that the Power Bank was full. After it was full I did some testing.

Test #1: I took my partially depleted 2nd Gen iPad that had 80% battery left and started charging it. The battery in my iPad is still extremely strong even though it is a little older. I checked it fairly often and got the following readings.

Starting Point = 80% Charge
After 10 Minutes = 82% Charge
After 30 Minutes = 86% Charge
After 60 Minutes = 92% Charge

This was a short test and the Power Bank performed very well compared to other brand power banks that I have tested in the past. Once you get close to the 90% mark when charging a device, the percent increase per minute slows down significantly in all power banks that I have tested. This power bank performed a little better the other brands I have tested when charging in the 90% capacity range. Overall, I am very pleased with the result and the speed was as good or slightly better than the other power banks I have tested.

Test #2: Took the Power Bank (without recharging it) and plugged in my half way depleted iPhone 5 that had only 49% charge remaining. I checked it every 10 minutes or so and got the following readings.

Starting Point = 49% Charge
After 20 Minutes = 71% Charge
After 40 Minutes = 89% Charge
After 60 Minutes = 97% Charge
After 71 Minutes = Full Charge

Overall, great results. The average for the other power banks I have tested has been and an increase of about 1% per minute. This power bank did slightly better before getting to the 90% capacity slow-down that all power banks experience. It also seemed to top off the iPhone a lot faster that some of the others. During the test, I switched between the Apple and Android ports and saw little or no difference between them when charging an iPhone. The Power Bank easily charged a my iPhone 5 without any problem and the indicator lights showed that it still had plenty of juice for at least another couple of charges.

Conclusion: Overall, the UtechSmart 10000mAh Power Bank worked great during my initial tests and usage. The performance was as good or slightly better than some competing products that I have tested. The product has a great, thin design that makes it easy to use or transport, especially for charging a phone where you can just lay the phone right on top of it. It looks and feels very solid. I can see that the large capacity of this power bank would be an excellent option for longer travel use such as a long plane trip or other travel where you do not have access to a power plug. Highly Recommended!
