Powerful solar panel with a built in auto restart circuit and priced right! This is a good one!
By jjceo (jjceo@comcast . net)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R25P0YKHGF2XV7 This is one of the best charging solar panels I have tested. It uses 4 solar panels to output 14 watts of power at 6.5 volts. That is stepped down to 5 VDC at 2.2 amps output for the USB charging port. The real secret is the smart internal circuitry that monitors whether your smart device is charging and if it is not and there is adequate sunlight and power is available it will restart the charging cycle automatically. This is critical when charging Apple products as they will stop the charging process when the voltage or current is out of its required specifications for charging.
In my testing I charged an iPad 2 and an iPhone 5S without any issues. I charged the iPad 2 from 79% to 100% in 2 hours without any human intervention to restart the charging process. I then charged and iPhone 5S from 46% to 100 percent in 60 Minutes. This is as fast as using a powerful AC powered USB wall charger. I did these tests on a very cool fall day with the temperature at ranging from 40 to 48 degrees F. It was sunny with clouds passing by. Clouds are your enemy for solar panels and they reduce or stop the power output and your smart device may not restart charging when the conditions are ideal again without human intervention to unplug and re-plug in your USB charging cable. This solar panel does it all for you automatically. In addition the strong 2.2 amp power output will charge your devices quickly when the sun conditions are ideal.
Please watch my video for some tips on using the solar panel:
* Tilt the panel towards the sun at a right angle to get the best performance
* Make sure to protect your smart devices with a light white cover or a box so it is not damaged from the the heat. You can easily destroy the LCD display or your smart device's battery pack from the heat! You absolutely do not want your smart device lying in the sun without adequate protection!
* Try to lay all of the panels flat and facing the sun as my video shows.
* Don't forget to take your own charging cables with you on your camping trip.
* Make sure to remove the plastic protective shipping film that is on the solar panels before you use it.
Solar panel features:
* It comes in a nice folding case
* It has hanging loops on the case to allow you to hang the solar panel on your tent, backpack, tree or pole.
* It has a powerful 2.2 Amp USB output
* It has the built in restarting circuit which makes this an excellent product
* It comes with a charging cable that is coiled and can reach from 9 inches to 19 inches
* It comes with two connectors. One is a Micro USB adapter and a 30 pin Apple connector. Remember to take your own charging cables with you if your devices need a unique connector or cable.
* The solar panel weighs in at 1 pound and 8 1/8 ounces.
* There is an internal pocket with a Velcro flap that will hold your device cables. Do not overstuff it as you might break a solar panel.
* It has one smart USB output plug (Not two as mentioned on the box or on the Amazon web site). I don't mind that it has only one port as I would rather have one powerful USB charging port and the auto restart circuit than two weaker USB ports. You have to charge between the passing clouds and the stronger current output and auto restart circuit are perfect for doing this.
* This solar panel is suitable to charge a tablet, smart phone, camera, USB powered GPS system, USB charged flashlight or gaming system. Basically any device that uses a 5 VDC USB port to charge.
Make sure that when you use the solar panel you remove the thin plastic film on the panels so that they will work properly. This is a very good solar panel and it worked perfectly in my testing. This was not a summer day but a cool fall day with clouds. I recommend this solar panel as an excellent product. I was able to charge an iPad 2 battery 21% or 1458.24 mAh in 2 hours and an iPhone 5S battery 54% or 824 mAh in 90 minutes. This solar panel is a strong charging source and it is deal for hiking, camping, canoeing, picnicking or any outdoor activity.
I rated this product as a 5 star item and I recommend it as a good product.
I received a sample product for test and evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

High tech charging
By J. Chambers
After waiting out several days of overcast skies and rain, I finally got to check out the solar charger this afternoon. And it works, at least well enough to charge my Samsung phone for the half hour I had it connected. During those thirty minutes, it brought the charge from 22% up to 34%. I'm not familiar with the efficiency of solar panels, but I live at 34 degrees north latitude, and this time of the year (late October), the sun is fairly low in the sky. In any case, I set the panels outside on the deck facing south, and connected the phone. When the phone indicated it was charging, I left it for a half hour, then returned and checked the charge level. Note that the solar charger has no electrical storage capacity itself, it only charges devices connected to it while the sun is shining on the panels.
The charger itself is pretty impressive. It folds up into a compact (9½"x7"x1½") package that weighs just over a pound and a half. The outer covering is some kind of heavy-gauge fabric that looks to be durable enough to resist snags or ripping.
I can see the solar charger being used by hikers and campers (primitive camping, with no facilities) to recharge their small mobile devices like phones, tablets, and Bluetooth devices. It could also be invaluable in emergencies where electrical power is lost.
A product sample was provided by the manufacturer for review purposes.

I love this thing!!!!
By hesty24
I did quite a bit of research on portable solar chargers before my purchase, so I hope that this review will help you guys. Also, after your purchase of whatever solar panel you buy, please post your comments and reviews. I found it very difficult to make a decision based on scant reviews.
OK, I bought mine off Newegg from the vendor 47st Photo <<< very quick shipping I might add, with excellent protection with packing. As one reviewer already commented, it didn't come with instructions, but I think that anyone with a respectful IQ can figure out how to use it, and that the solar panel/ charger is just that, and not a battery bank. Seriously, if one finds it difficult to figure out how to use this charger, please don't procreate for the consideration of all mankind. Customer "jjceo" says it all, outstanding review I might add - ditto. Mad props to him for taking the time for the review.
Why this one as opposed to other panels?: #1: Circuitry (restart circuitry incorporated into the unit). #2: Price: $64 for the panel, and a Opteka 2200mAh Li-ion battery bank!!! #3: attachment points: holy cow just look at all of em'! You can literally pose this unit in the sun anyway you can imagine. #4: Reviews. #5: Weight
You will see other panels offer two USB ports, but like another review stated, do you really want to divvy your power into two devices, or just obligate your energy for one device at a time? Not sure if this thing is rough and tumble and/or water proof, and I don't plan on finding out, but it does look well built. I bought it for an emergency survival bag/ Bug Out Bag, but I am going to have a hard time keeping it in there < it is just that awesome. For a solar panel, it is on the heavier side, but I knew this before the purchase, this is why it is going in my son's bag, and not mine. If this panel fails, or has issues, I will be sure to update this review.
Hope this aids in your decision.
