Our goal was simple: design a powerful battery that stacks up - literally.

Slimmer and stronger.
At (0.39in), Anker's Astro Slim2 comes with enough power for 2-3 charges on most smartphones in a compact, easy-to-grip case. Sized especially to stack behind your 4.3in smartphone for uninterrupted phone-use while charging. An LED column lets you know just how much juice is left without diverting attention from your work.

Say goodbye to knots.
Who doesn't hate tangled cables? With an intuitively-sized micro USB cord for Android, the Slim2 allows you to carry your power all-in-one. Using an iPhone? Plug into the USB port and charge up via your OEM cable.

No expense to speed.
What's better than a high-capacity battery that slides into your pocket on-the-go? One capable of simultaneous, full-speed charges. Both ports supply 1A of power with complete safety to your phones, so you can power up in no time and make the most of your day.

For optimal use.
• For simultaneous, max-speed charging of your Astro and other devices, check out Anker's new 25W 5-port wall charger or dual-port 24W car charger.
• Compatible with all Apple and Android smartphones, tablets and other 5V input USB-charged devices. The iPod nano, Samsung and Asus tablets and some GPS and Bluetooth devices are not supported.
• The built-in Micro-USB cord may not work with thicker bumpers or cases.

5Beautifully styled, light weight and powerful battery pack that is ideal for smart phones!
By jjceo (jjceo@comcast . net)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R26EERCGD42SEV This is a beautiful product for anyone who travels or works long days. You can charge your smart phone while on the bus, train, and plane or in a meeting without looking for one of those hard to find wall plugs. This powerful battery pack can charge your smart phone multiple times or extend the use of your smart tablet. (Please see the details listed below in my test results)

It is beautifully designed, extremely thin, small and portable. It uses Grade A power cells which will provide years of recharging capability, up to 500 plus times. The battery pack has the power storage of 4500 mAh. It has a standard USB port and a built in Micro USB cable that can both output 5VDC at 1 AMP each, simultaneously. It can charge two devices at the same time. My testing reveals that this battery pack is powerful and effective with the capability of outputting 3700 mAh of its charging capacity which is 82.2 percent of its rated capacity which is an excellent result.

What I like is that the unit is priced well and it is so small and portable but can really carry a lot of power. It easily fits into your purse, briefcase or pocket. Since it is only 0.42 inches thick it can easily slip into a jacket pocket for easy access. You could recharge most smart phones from 2 to 3 times with this power cell. The battery pack is about the same size as an iPhone 4. It weighs in at 4 1/8 ounces and it has a matte finish that helps you to grip it and it does not show fingerprints. I have included a video of this review and I hope it is helpful to you.

Anker® Astro Slim2 included accessories:

*12 inch charging cable with USB on one end and Micro USB on the other
*Apple 30 pin to Micro USB adapter
*Mini USB to Micro USB adapter
*Instruction manual
*18 month warranty
*Built in 3.2 inch long Micro USB cable that is built into and stores on the battery pack

Anker® Astro Slim2 4500mAh features:

* There are two power outputs and one is a USB port and it is rated at 5 VDC at 1.0 Amp and the other is a built-in Micro USB cable that is 3.2 inches long and rated at 5 VDC at 1 Amp.
* You can charge two devices at the same time.
* The battery pack has an automatic on feature to start the charging process for your device and it will automatically shut off when your device is fully charged. It is ideal to unplug your device when done charging to protect the long term life of the battery pack.
* Uses Lithium-Ion battery technology.
* The battery pack can be recharged 500+ times
* Warranty is 18 months
* The battery pack comes with an instruction manual and a Micro USB to USB charging cable that is 12 inches long, a micro USB to Mini USB adapter and a Micro USB to Apple 30 pin adapter.
* Powerful 4500 mAh capacity
* The unit is compact and weighs in at 4 1/8 ounces.
* Very attractive design, which is thin, small and lightweight.
* It has 4 LED status lights located on the front that indicate the battery charge level. One flashing LED means 0 to 5% One LED on and one flashing means 5 to 25%, two LEDs on and the third blinking means 25 to 50%, three LEDs on and the fourth blinking means 50 to 75% and all four on means 75 to 100%.
* When the battery pack is fully charged the four LEDs turn off.
* When charging a device the LEDs stay lit showing the amount of power still stored in the battery pack.
* The battery pack has a nice matte surface that is attractive and do not show fingerprints.
* The battery pack does not come with an AC wall charger. You can charge it fully by plugging it into an AC wall socket rated to have an output of 5 VDC and 1 amp or more and charge it in about 5 hours.
* Charging it with a USB 2.0 port on your laptop could take as long as 10 hours.
* The unit is powerful and it has an attractive price.
* It is thin enough to fit into a shirt pocket or into a jacket pocket at .420 inches thick!

Test charging an iPad 3 to measure the output capacity:

Start iPad 3 at 30 % and the Anker Slim 4500 mAh battery fully charged and at 4 LEDs.
* Unattended I charged an iPad 3 from 30 percent to 62% in under 3 hours. That equals an output capacity of 32% of 11560 mAh or 3699.2 mAh.
* That is 82.2 percent of the rated capacity of 4500 mAh which is excellent!

Limitations of device charging:

* iPhone 4 battery 1,420 mAh battery capacity
* iPhone 4S battery 1,432 mAh battery capacity
* iPad 2 battery 6,944 mAh battery capacity
* iPad 3 battery 11,560 mAh battery capacity
* Kindle Fire battery 4400 mAh capacity
* Kindle Keyboard battery 1750 mAh capacity
* iPhone 5 is 3.8 VDC at 5.45 Wh = 1434 mAh battery
* iPad 4 battery is 11,486 mAh 3.7 VDC at 42.5 Wh
* iPad Mini battery is 4490 mAh at 3.72 VDC 16.7 Wh

As you can see the Anker 4500 will not fully charge a totally dead iPad 2, 3 or 4 because it only contains 4500 mAh of capacity. You have to consider the losses in the charging circuits of both the battery pack and the device you are charging. Energy is lost during the voltage conversion, used by the electronics of the battery pack and your device and by the generation of heat.

Anker® Astro Slim2 4500mAh Real World Charging:

* iPhone 4 or 5 approximately 2.6 full charges out of a fully charged Anker Astro Slim2 4500 mAh Portable Power Bank
* iPad 2 approximately 53% of a full charge
* iPad 3 or 4 approximately 32% of a full charge
* iPad Mini approximately 82.4% of a full charge
* Kindle Fire approximately 84% of a full charge
* A normal estimated usable storage is 70% of capacity or .70 * 4500 mAh = 3150 mAh charging capacity available for your electronic devices.
* In my testing I was able to use approximately 3700 mAh of capacity or roughly 82.2% of the 4500 mAh capacity. This is an excellent result.

This is an excellent product and deserves a 5 star rating. I recommend it to you.

I received a sample product for evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

4Not bad, but not (quite) as good as expected.
By Michael A Keaton
This power bank is small, light, manageable, well designed, and well priced.

That being said my phone has an 1800mAh battery. Being that this battery is rated at 4500mAh, even after considering power lost to heat, and internal processes the bank has built in, it seemed reasonable for me to expect 2 charges. Sadly the Astro Slim2 delivered just a little over one.

Considering the quality, and thoughtful design, if you often find yourself out and about and away from a charger in your car or at home, this unit is still worth the money, and I'd still recommend it.

(Update)

Anker responded to the negetive aspects of my review in a ridiculously fast manor, offering a replacement and seeming incredibly helpful, but I don't believe the item to be defective, still be of quite good quality, and am happy to have it. And now you can be sure the customer quality is impeccable. Again not a bad product if it's for you, but I can highly recommend Anker products in general, because they stand behind their products, and try to make sure their customers are happy.

(Update #2)

Anker mailed me an unsolicited replacement just in case original unit was under-performing. After a few discharges I've come to the conclusion that the new unit is slightly outperforming the old. I am currently getting about one and one half charges, and suspect I may get a full two charges, if I were to completely shut my phone down during charging, but for what are probably fairly obvious reasons this isn't really practical. As stated earlier, the company has quality, affordable products with unbelievable customer service. If you're on the fence about purchasing a product the company offers, you should take their willingness to go above and beyond into consideration.

4Finally A Portable Battery With Built-In Cable
By Joseph Siu
I think Anker finally hit the sweet spot in portable USB batteries with the Astro Slim2, and I've used my share of them. Of course, as an ultra-slim battery with just 4500mAh, this isn't going to charge your tablet or jump start your car. What it will do, though, is give your precious cellphone that extra kick when you're just about to beat that Angry Bird level and your battery is down to its last breath. It will do it in style, too.

The Anker Slim2 is about the size of your typical new-gen cellphone; it is nearly identical in size and thickness to my Google LG Nexus 4. This means that it is just the perfect size to slip into the inside pocket of a suit or jean pocket. I can't mention how many times I've had to leave my other portable batteries behind because they were just too bulky or awkwardly shaped, rendering them completely useless when I needed them most. There's no need for a second thought with the Slim2; just slip it into a pocket and go. Forgot to bring a cable? No sweat; IT COMES WITH A BUILT-IN CABLE.

Did I mention that it comes with a built-in cable?!

Sorry for those in the proprietary cable camp (I'm looking at your, Apple), the built-in cable is Micro-USB only. Which means that, oh I don't know, it will work with JUST ABOUT ANY Android cellphone in the market. When not in use, the cable tucks neatly into the battery charging port. If your device doesn't have a Micro-USB charging port, Anker showed some love by including a USB output port as well so you can BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Cable). Anker threw in a Mini-USB and a 30-pin iPhone adapter too, just for kicks. Furthermore, the Slim2 has a 4-LED display that tells you how much battery is left so you're never left wondering.

This all sounds amazing, so you might be wondering why the 4-star. Well, I'm picky. There are 2 short-comings with the Slim2:

1) The unit comes with a charging USB cable but no USB-to-A/C adapter. I know, I know, all the cool kids are doing it and leaving the adapter out, but it just feels a bit incomplete without one. It isn't really a huge deal as I usually have a laptop around, but I have found myself hunting around the house for a place to charge it once in a while. You know what would be cool? If Anker figured out how to include a built-in A/C prongs or USB charging plug (one can dream, right?)

2) The Slim2 doesn't have a built-in LED flashlight. I know you're looking at me like I'm crazy now, but if you've ever used any of the other Anker portable batteries before, you would know how ingenious that LED light is when Anker first introduced it. It is icing on the cake, to be sure, but the flashlight function really comes in handy, especially when you're carrying the battery around anyway. I guess you can always use the flashlight mode on your now fully charged cellphone, but where's the fun in that?

As I get older, my reviews tend to get longer so I'm sure you've pretty much just scrolled to the end here without reading the rest. Well, this is my summary; buy the Anker Slim2. You'll love it and take it with you everywhere. Your cellphone will thank you.
