Good idea, but needs better documentation
By Robert Getsla
I bought the SOS Charger so I could recharge my phone in the event of a power failure, because I have only the AC powered charger that came with my phone. It turns out this little charger works well with my phone, beside being a nice LED flashlight. However, I suggest doing some research to make sure your phone can be charged from a 5 volt power supply, because that is the regulated voltage from the charger while you crank it. This little charger also comes with a number of cord adapters and probably will charge anything which charges from a standard USB port, including most MP3 players.

Good, unless your phone is already dead
By Made In Louisiana
I was really impressed with this product. It's compact, comes with multiple adapters, is water-resistant and doesn't rely on batteries. After reading reviews on it, I was concerned it would be flimsy and break easily. However, I have not found that to be the case (so far at least). The only thing I have noticed is that I couldn't charge my cell phone very well when my phone was dead. My phone showed that it was charging, but it didn't charge enough to turn it back on before my arm got tired of cranking. However, I used it to charge my phone once when the battery was just low and it worked great at fully charging it. The flashlight is not as bright as I expected, but it's bright enough to be able to do things like change a flat tire at night. Also, the flashlight stays charged for a long time after cranking.
I would recommend storing this charger in a small bag or pouch so you can keep all the adapters (e.g. for different types of cell phones, GPS, etc.) together.

Small, body is well-made, attachments are not
By James Ryley
The body seems sturdy, as does the crank. The attachments to connect the device to phones and such are another story. I broke one just looking at it (ok, I was touching it too). I wasn't even trying to plug it in to anything, just looking it over when I got it. A little bit of force on the end of one of the cell phone adapters and the outer casing fell off and the wires came out.
Also, the description does say this, but note: Will not charge the iPhone. No matter how fast you crank.
The flashlight part is better. Three modes: 1 LED lit, 3 LEDs lit, and blinking. A little winding provides reasonable use of the flashlight - more than adequate for emergencies.
A note on LED lights: LEDs almost never burn out (way, way higher hour rating than incandescent lights). Probably less prine to break from dropping also. I don't understand why some high-end flashlights still use bulbs that can burn out or break. I've seen very nice flashlights with aircraft aluminum bodies, O-ring seals, and... an incandescent bulb, with a spare bulb in the handle. I probably wouldn't need that spare bulb if they just used an LED. And you'd have to have 10 spare bulbs (or more) to give the same life span as an LED.
In summary, I might recommend it as a flashlight that will never need batteries and uses LED "bulbs". Buying it to charge something in an emergency is a little more questionable. The output is limited enough that it will not charge all phones, and I expect emergency devices not to break so easily -- I don't want to have an emergency with my emergency tool.
